“Busting out for a Cure” 2010 Events

Our 2010 "Busting Out for a Cure" events have been a great success, raising a
total of $130,000 for the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia (BCIA). Each
capital city hosted a unique fundraiser for the BCIA which was a night of fun
and glamour, from a "Alice in Wonderland" theme in Perth to a "Sex and the
City" party in Sydney and Melbourne.
Kathy Cummings, Executive General Manager Third Party and Mobile Banking
said the events were a great success, “I am very proud of the way our staff
embraced these events and absolutely amazed at the generosity of our business
partners and suppliers.”
The money was raised through auctions and donations and will go directly to
funding clinical research trials into a cure for breast cancer.
Kathy Cummings said “The Group has partnered with the Breast
Cancer Institute of Australia and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
We are passionate about raising awareness and funds for health issues that
affect women and men.”
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA)
The Bank has been a proud partner of PCFA since 1999,
helping to raise awareness of prostate cancer and to support crucial research.
We support the Foundation through a range of initiatives, including actively
participation in the Movember 2009 campaign, collection of 'Gold Coin'
donations at Head Group conferences, delivering of 'Men's Health' forums at
major events sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank and many more activities.
The 'Captains' Lunch' is an another very successful
initiative launched by our Queensland office in support of PCFA. The June lunch
did raise $30,000 for the PCFA and featured the captains of three football
codes - Darren Lockyer (Brisbane Broncos), Jonathon Brown (Brisbane Lions) and
James Horwill (Queensland Reds). The lunch was strongly supported by the local
financial services industry, including mortgage brokers, as well as the
automotive, real estate, law and beverage industries.
Kathy Cummings, Executive General Manager Third Party Banking,
said the lunch was a great success: 'By bringing together the three football
codes we attracted a great amount of interest from Brisbane's footy fans and
they were very generous in their support of PCFA." Steve Sharp, our Qld State
Manager, said a third of tables were purchased by mortgage brokers, reflecting
a real commitment to the cause: "All the money raised will go directly to
support PCFA's efforts in finding a cure for prostate cancer."
